Parish Receives National Recognition
Calcasieu Parish Police Jury Recipient of 2009 NACIO Awards of Excellence
The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury was selected as a winner in the National Association of County Information Officers’ “2009 Awards of Excellence Competition.” The Parish received an award level of “Superior” in the “Special Projects, Public Participation Projects” category, for the Vision:Calcasieu project. This level is the highest in three award classifications. Calcasieu Parish is one of only two government agencies in Louisiana to receive recognition from this competition.
For the Vision:Calcasieu project, Planning Works drafted the first ever Comprehensive Plan for Calcasieu Parish, which is expected to be adopted in 2010. Public participation efforts for this project have included a project website, online streaming video and television broadcast of community workshops, keypad polling, interactive growth allocation mapping exercises, focus group meetings and key stakeholder interviews. Planning Works will lead Plan implementation through development of a Unified Development Code that directs growth out of the storm surge areas and ensures that development will be a long-term asset.
