Comprehensive Plan Update and Zoning Ordinance Revisions
After successfully completing a detailed Zoning Diagnostic project, Planning Works has been retained to update the Plan and zoning ordinance. The key challenges will be to facilitate improved mobility, encourage compatible infill and fostering sustainable mixed use neighborhoods.
Southern Pines, North Carolina
Unified Development Ordinance
Planning Works is nearing completion of a UDO that establishes ‘design and use’ overlays for the historic downtown and a historically African-American neighborhood. The UDO simplifies existing procedures and consolidates multiple planned development districts.
Hammond, Louisiana
GIS Realignment
Planning Works is nearing completion of a realignment of the City’s parcel, address and street geodatabases. As part of the effort, Planning works has developed short and long term work programs, as well as data management protocols. Routine updates now can be performed through a series of drop down menus that minimize the potential for data entry errors.
Strasburg, Virginia
Unified Development Code
The UDC will build on a recently adopted Comprehensive Plan and other recent community planning efforts. Key issues will include clear and concise standards and guidelines for the downtown, entry corridor gateway and historic neighborhoods.
Lafayette County, Missouri
Staff Support
Planning Works continues to provide to staff, the County Commission and the Planning Commission for a wide variety of issues, including development review, restructuring GIS and updates to the Comprehensive Plan and Land Use Development Code.
Monroe County, Iowa
Comprehensive Plan Update
Planning Works is updating the Plan, incorporating a GIS-based land suitability model that protects farms and ag business and promotes traditional economic development.
Huntersville, North Carolina
Adequate Public Facilities Ordinance
After drafting and updating the Town’s APFO, Planning Works is providing support to coordinate the APFO with the Budget and Capital Improvement Plan.
Jackson County, Missouri
Comprehensive Plan
Jackson County unanimously adopted the 2013 Comprehensive Plan - Planning A Better Jackson County. Key issues included planning for transit, metro rail, intergovernmental coordination and regionalism.
Carroll County, Virginia
Comprehensive Plan
The County unanimously adopted the Comprehensive Plan, which was subsequently received the 2011 VA APA Outstanding Plan award, laying the foundation to protect agriculture and farms and promotes economic development along highway interchanges, balancing the needs of ‘no growth’ rural areas with ‘pro growth’ commercial centers.
Ocean Springs, Mississippi
Comprehensive Plan and Unified Development Code
Ocean Springs, after unanimously adopting the 2010 Comprehensive Plan, reviewing the UDC, which coordinates and consolidates various special purpose ordinances and establishes the foundation for form-based zoning in three distinct neighborhoods.
Panama City Beach, Florida
Form-Based Regulations; Unified Development Code
After drafting form-based regulations for the City’s beach corridor, Planning Works worked with the City staff to develop a new LDC that extends many of the form-based provisions to other neighborhoods. Planning Works continues to support the City by maintaining the code and providing assistance with its implementation
Santa Fe County, New Mexico
Sustainable Land Development Plan and Ordinance
With the Plan adoption of both the Oil/Gas Plan Element and the Oil/Gas Ordinance in 2009, the County is poised to adopt the coordinated Sustainable Land Development Plan (SLDP) and the Sustainable Land Development Code (SLDC) in 2011.
